This course covers the safety issues connected with the arc welding process, oxy-fuel welding, and oxy-fuel cutting. A very important part of this course will be discussing safety as related to oxy-fuel equipment and set-up. The students will also be required to demonstrate the safe use of the equipment. Time will be spent in the lab developing skills using the SMAW (Shielded Medal Arc Welding) and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) processes along with Oxy-fuel welding and brazing. Welds will be made in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Welding tests will be done in accordance with the AWS welding codes. *Sophmores can receive Tech Prep certificates, but cannot receive transcript credit.
Class brake down (4 credits): 2 - Lab credits will cover the use of Arc welding equipment (SMAW and GMAW) in the flat and horizontal positions. 1- Lab credit will be to cover Oxy-fuel welding and Brazing. 1 – Lec credit will be covering Oxy-fuel and arc welding safety.
