Welding Advanced –Discovery Academy for Welding

Prerequisite:                              Welding Principles – Discovery Academy

ITEA Standards:                       5, 8, 10, 11, 20

 

Must complete a Discovery Academy application.

 

This course covers the safety issues connected with the arc welding process and cutting equipment used in the metal fabrication industry. Their will be discussions on the different types of power sources used in arc welding. Current selection and applications, electrode selection and application, electrodes and the AWS electrode code will be defined.  Time will be spent in the lab developing skills using the SMAW (Shielded Medal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) processes, along with the use of cutting equipment used in the metal fabrication industry. Cutting equipment will be manual and automated flame cutting equipment. Plasma cutting and mechanical cutting methods will include sawing and shearing. Welds will be made in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Welding tests will be done in accordance with the AWS welding codes.
