Use the class period to do the following:
- Finish uploading macro photos; if you cannot get on the server, have a buddy sign on for you.
- Check out www.toddwilliamsusa.com and the flash fill photos I took recently here. Your next photos will be of silhouette and flash fill. Both shots set up the same, but the settings on the camera are different.
- Google "flash fill techniques" and take some mental notes
- Start a notebook for this class - first journal entry: think up and write down 4 scenarios to cover flash fill and silhouette shots in the next two days. Where, when, and how will you take these shots? Each journal entry will be worth 30 points.
- Flash Fill & Silhouette photos will be due on Wednesday the 18th - you will have the class period to upload and edit
- If you need a camera, you will need to stop by Monday after school or come in on Tuesday.
My advice for you:
Flash Fill (2 shots min.)
- light source directly behind subject - make sure the sun is nearly or completely blocked by the subject
- turn flash on
- outdoor shots work best
- late afternoon and evening
- don't limit yourself to people - use just about anything to photograph
Silhouette (2 shots min.)
- light source directly behind subject
- faster shutter speed (at least 60, preferably 200-500 depending on light conditions)
- silhouette should have edges that are sharp and in focus
- everything within the silhouette should be nearly black.
- some examples I've done... Weimer's Silhouettes
Oh, and btw.... check out my shots from spring break: Weimer's Trip to Utah
